Overwintered Ligustica, mated or instrumentally inseminated
Overwintered instrumentally inseminated and naturally mated queen bees will be shipped starting from April 28, 2025. Queen bees are available in limited quantities.
If you plan to raise new queen bees yourself this year, purchase an overwintered instrumentally inseminated queen bee now and receive it at the beginning of May!
Overwintered naturally mated queen bees are typically used in cases where, during the first spring inspections of bee colonies, it is found that a colony is without a queen and needs to be saved.
All queens and used drones are reared from selected breeder queens, tested in our apiaries. Upon receiving instrumentally inseminated queens, the beekeeper will also receive information on the origin of the queens and used drones.
Ligustica bee colonies:
- Form strong, large colonies,
- Excellent foragers when nectar is widely available in nature,
- Winter consumption of food is uneconomical, overwinter worse than other races in severe winters (Finnish-Italian queens have better wintering ability),
- Are very gentle during the working procedures,
- Have low tendency to swarm,
- Greater tendency to rob than other races, if there is low or no nectar in nature.
